Aaron's WWF Highlights
During the 1980's wrestling had become extremely popular. At the head of the wrestling industry was the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), and their champion Hulk Hogan. The legacy of Wrestle Mania was born on March 31, 1985, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Before that event the WWF had held many other, smaller events, however, none were as successful as Wrestle Mania. Seen by more than one million people, Wrestle Mania proved to be the originator of what would come to be known as the greatest spectacular in sports-entertainment history.
In the early 1990's Ted Turner formed the World Championship Wrestling (WCW).
WCW acquired wrestling's biggest name, Hulk Hogan, their ratings began to go higher than the WWF's, and they were selling more merchandise.
Wrestling had always been conducted in a certain way, with the good guy defeating the bad guy. But things started to change. The fans were cheering for the bad guy, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, when they were supposed to be booing him. The WWF quickly capitalized on this by changed their style. Now the tough guys who didn't care what the fans thought became popular. The established good guys were now acting arrogant and cocky, and the WWF was back on top marketing to mature audiences.
