Sammy Sosa was born on November 12, 1968, in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. He plays right field and center field, and bats on his right. Sammy Sosa is 6'0" and his weight is 200lbs. He has only undergone one trade in his life and that was his trade by the Chicago White Sox to the Chicago Cubs on March 30, 1992. Sammy Sosa does a lot of charity work and he is considered a hero in the eyes of his countrymen.
Sammy Sosa earned and received the previous two seasons (2000 and 1999), no one expected that his 2000 season would be as tumultuous as it ultimately turned out to be. It began in January when new manager Don Baylor challenged Sosa to run more and upgrade his defensive play. When negotiations for a contract extension stalled in June, Sosa in the next-to-last year of his contract told the club to either sign him to an extension or trade him. The Cubs were about to trade Sammy Sosa, but due to a public out cry, Sosa was not traded. The club soon smoothed things out. Sosa completed another fine season, leading the majors with 50 home runs and hitting a career-high .320.
