Aaron's Motorcycle Racing Highlights
Motorcycles are descended from the "safety" bicycle, bicycles with front and rear wheels of the same size, with a pedal crank mechanism to drive the rear wheel. Gottlieb Daimler (who later teamed up with Karl Benz to form the Daimler-Benz Corporation) is credited with building the first motorcycle in 1885, which was powered by a single-cylinder Otto-cycle engine.
There are basically two kinds of motorcycle races: road racing and off-road racing (motocross). The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is the premier defender of motorcyclists' rights in the United States, and it oversees many races.
Road racing
Most motorcycles designed for road courses have fiberglass or carbon fiber fairings around the front and engine to improve aerodynamics and intern increases speed and agility. They have stiff suspension systems to improve handling agility on curves, and their engines are modified to produce more power. The most popular motorcycle road races include the AMA Superbike, the Formula USA, and the World Superbike.
Off-road racing (motocross)
Dirt bikes or motocrosses have better suspensions and are usually lighter than their road racing brothers. The most popular motocross races include the AMA Motocross, and the AMA Supercross.
