Mats Sundin was born in 1971 in Sollentuna, Sweden. He stands 6'4" tall and weights 225 lbs. He was the first European to even be drafted #1. He was drafted in 1989 the by Quebec Nordiques. In 1994 Sundin became a Toronto Maple Leaf in a multi-player trade which involved Toronto sending Wendel Clark, Sylvain Lefebvre, Landon Wilson and first round draft pick to Quebec for Mats Sundin, Garth Butcher, Todd Warriner and first round draft pick. In 2001 Mats Sundin surpassed Tomas Sandström to take over the Swedish All Time Points Record with his 857th point. In 1997, he became the captain of the team.
In 1991, Mats won a gold medal with Sweden at the World Championships and paced the tournament with 12 points in ten games. He scored seven times and was named a tournament All-Star. Later that year, he was a tournament All-Star at the 1991 Canada Cup. In April 1992, Mats led Sweden to its second straight World Championships gold medal. Mats was a tournament All-Star, won the Best Forward directorate award and scored the gold medal-winning goal.
