Joe Sakic was born in 1969 in Burnaby, British Columbia. He stands 5'11" and weights 190 lbs. Joe was Quebec's 2nd pick in the 1987 Entry Draft (15th Overall). He has played in the NHL All-Star Game seven times (1990-94, 1996, 1998), and he won the Hart Trophy (league MVP), Lady Byng Trophy (the best gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability), and the Lester B. Pearson Trophy (outstanding player as selected by the members of the NHLPA) in 2001. He has also won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Stanley Cup finals MVP in 1996.
1990 and 1991 sees Joe finish as the only man in history to finish with 100 points on the worst team in the league, the Quebec Nordiques. Greener pastures abound in 1992-93 the Nordiques romp to the best improved record in a single season jumping from 52 to 104 points, tying the franchise mark.
Armed with the shrewdest GM in the league and a strong supporting cast, Denver, Colorado becomes Sakic's town in 1995-96, and they win the Stanley cup. Joe goes on to win it again in 2001.
