People have been working out since the dawn of time. Some people workout to shape their body, or just to be in better physical health, either way both are good for the body. On the other hand, too much working out can be extremely bad for you. There biggest competition in body building is the Mr. Olympia contest created by Joe Weider.
Mr Olympia
In 1965 was the first Mr. Olympia contest. Larry Scott was a legend in his own time, and his name was used to promote the contest. Joe Weider created the contest to allow former Mr. Universe champions to continue to make money competing. Scott won the crown the first two years. Sergio Oliva (The Myth) won it twice after Scott retired, but in 1969 one of the greatest rivalries began between Oliva and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Schwarzenegger won in 1970, and held the title until 1975 when he retired. Frank Zane then took over and held it for three years, only to lose it to Schwarzenegger in 1980 when he came out of retirement. In the 1980's the dominant figure was Jim Haney, who was an impressive 247 lbs, at 5'11". He was big, massive, and cut, and he won eight consecutive Mr. Olympia contests. In the 1990's Dorian Yates won six crowns.
